💵
Always carry cash
Pattaya nightlife runs on Thai baht. ATMs are everywhere (especially on Walking Street and Buakhao) but many bars don't take cards. 2,000–3,000 THB is a solid budget for a big night.
🍺
Eat before you drink
Pattaya's bars stay open until 3AM and beyond. Food gets harder to find as the night goes on. Eat a proper meal before 9PM.
🚐
Use baht buses or Grab
Never take a tuk tuk without agreeing on the price first. Baht buses (songthaews) run along Beach Road for 10 THB. Grab app gives fixed prices with no negotiation.
👀
Walk before you sit
Pattaya has hundreds of bars. Don't commit to the first one you see. Walk the strip once, get a feel for the vibe, then choose.
Don't arrive too early
Walking Street is quiet before 10PM. Pattaya nightlife peaks from 11PM to 2AM. If you arrive at 8PM you'll be sitting in an empty bar.
📱
Download Grab before you land
Getting a taxi home at 3AM without Grab is expensive and stressful. Install it before you leave your hotel.

Money & Prices

Standard drink prices vary by venue. Beer typically runs 70–150 THB depending on the location and how touristy the area is. Lady drinks are part of the beer bar culture — staff may ask if you'll buy them a drink for a commission. It's always optional and polite to decline if you're not interested.

Bar fines are a gogo bar system where you pay a fee to take a staff member out. Know the fee before you agree to anything. Never be surprised by a charge at the end of the night. If you're planning a full night with gogo bars, budget higher drink prices and potential bar fines.

Tipping is customary in Pattaya. 20–50 THB is standard and appreciated but not mandatory. Most venues won't expect a percentage tip — just round up or leave small change. See our full bar prices guide for detailed area-by-area breakdown.

Quick Reference

Budget Range
1,000–3,000 THB covers a full night including transport
Expensive Mistake
Agreeing to bar fines without knowing the amount first
Best Value Area
Soi Diana and Soi Buakhao consistently beat Walking Street on price

One Tip for Every Area

Each part of Pattaya has its own rules. Here's what to know before you land in each one.

Walking Street
Go on a Friday or Saturday for the fullest crowd. The strip peaks around midnight. Marine Disco is worth seeing even if clubs aren't your thing.
Soi 6
The most direct area in Pattaya. Know what you're walking into before you go. Don't be surprised by the approach — it's the format of the street.
LK Metro
Walk the whole alley first — it's only 100 metres. Choose your bar based on the vibe from the door, not the first one you pass.
Soi Buakhao
The best area for a relaxed session. Pool bars are great to anchor a night. Come before 11PM for seats at the best spots.
Beach Road
Best in the early evening before 10PM. The open-air bars with Gulf views are perfect for a first drink. Gets busier but loses the view atmosphere as it gets later.
Tree Town
Dress slightly smarter here than on Walking Street. Rooftop bars have dress codes at some venues. Worth it for the views.

Safety — What You Actually Need to Know

🚔
Police presence is real
Walking Street has a visible police checkpoint at its entrance. Random checks happen. Carry a copy of your passport page or your Thai entry stamp.
💊
Zero tolerance on drugs
Thailand has zero tolerance. No exceptions. Bars that offer substances are a trap. Don't.
🏧
ATM skimming happens
Use ATMs inside 7-Elevens or inside banks. Avoid standalone machines on Walking Street. Check your card before inserting.

How to Actually Have the Best Night

🎯
Start with one area
Don't try to hit every area in one night. Pick one or two, go deep. Walking Street + LK Metro is a natural combo. Buakhao + Soi Diana is another.

🤝
Be friendly to staff
The best nights in Pattaya happen when you treat staff well. The worst happen when people are rude. Simple.
🚿
Freshen up mid-night
Go back to the hotel at midnight, shower, change. Pattaya's heat is real. Coming back fresh at 1AM changes the night completely.
🎰
Avoid street touts
People who approach you on the street trying to take you somewhere are almost always earning commission from a venue. Find places yourself.

Beach Road and Walking Street: anything casual, flip flops fine. Tree Town rooftops: smart casual, trainers minimum. Gogo bars: no dress code. Pattaya is generally very relaxed about dress. The rule is: be respectful but comfort wins in the heat.
