Getting to Pattaya from the Airport: Complete 2026 Guide

Suvarnabhumi: 1.5–2 hours by taxi or minibus. U-Tapao: 45 minutes from Pattaya. Bus, private car, and shared van options with real prices. The complete airport-to-Pattaya transfer guide.

Thailand has three major airports. Depending on which one you arrive at, your transfer options to Pattaya vary significantly. This guide covers all three airports with practical options, costs and recommendations.

Airport 1: Suvarnabhumi (BKK) — Main International Airport

Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK)

Distance to Pattaya: About 160 km / 90-120 minutes drive

What it is: Bangkok's main airport, handles 90% of international flights. Biggest, busiest, most modern Thai airport. Most international travelers use this.

Option 1: Bell Travel Coach (BUDGET OPTION)

Cost: 250 baht ($7 USD)

Time: 1.5-2 hours direct

How: Exit baggage claim, follow signs to ground floor. Find "Bell Travel" counter (look for yellow signage). Buy ticket, board coach. Direct bus to Pattaya Bus Terminal. No stops. Takes highway directly.

Best for: Solo budget travelers with minimal luggage.

Pros: Super cheap, direct to Pattaya center, reliable

Cons: Basic seating, may take time to fill before departure

Option 2: Private Airport Transfer (COMFORT OPTION)

Cost: 1500-2000 baht ($45-60 USD) for car

Time: 1.5-2 hours direct

How: Pre-book through hotel website, travel agency, or Klook app. Driver meets you at airport with name sign. Door-to-door service directly to your hotel.

Best for: Comfort seekers, late arrivals, traveling with luggage/group

Pros: Door-to-door, reliable, direct, no waiting

Cons: More expensive, need to pre-book

Option 3: Grab App (MODERN OPTION)

Cost: 600-900 baht ($18-27 USD)

Time: 1.5-2.5 hours

How: Open Grab app (requires WiFi at airport or local SIM), set airport pickup, set Pattaya destination, book long-distance ride. Driver arrives, you get real-time tracking.

Best for: Tech-savvy travelers, transparency priority

Pros: Fixed price (no negotiation), professional driver, real-time tracking, safer

Cons: Requires Grab account and Thai SIM/WiFi, medium price

Suvarnabhumi Recommendation:

Best option: Bell Travel Coach (budget) or private transfer (comfort). Grab is good middle ground. Skip street taxis at Suvarnabhumi — too expensive and unsafe.

Airport 2: Don Mueang (DMK) — Budget Airline Hub

Don Mueang International Airport (DMK)

Distance to Pattaya: About 170 km / 2-2.5 hours drive

What it is: Bangkok's older airport, now handles mostly budget airlines (AirAsia, Nok Air, Thai Lion). Less convenient for Pattaya (further away than Suvarnabhumi).

Option 1: Via Bangkok City (2-PART JOURNEY)

Cost: 150 baht (airport bus to Bangkok) + 120 baht (minivan to Pattaya) = 270 baht total

Time: 30 min airport bus + 2 hours minivan = ~3 hours total

How: Take airport bus to Ekkamai Bus Terminal or Victory Monument in Bangkok. From Ekkamai, take minivan to Pattaya (see Bangkok to Pattaya guide). This is cheapest but slowest option.

Pros: Super cheap, realistic for backpackers

Cons: Time-consuming, requires two journeys, luggage hassle between buses

Option 2: Private Airport Transfer (DIRECT)

Cost: 1500-2000 baht ($45-60 USD)

Time: 2-2.5 hours direct

How: Pre-book private car. Driver meets you at airport, takes highway directly to Pattaya. No stops in Bangkok.

Pros: Skips Bangkok entirely, door-to-door, saves time

Cons: More expensive, but justified to avoid Bangkok detour

Option 3: Grab (DIRECT)

Cost: 700-1200 baht ($21-35 USD)

Time: 2-2.5 hours direct

How: Use Grab app same as Suvarnabhumi. Direct to Pattaya, no Bangkok detour.

Pros: Modern, fixed price, transparent

Cons: Requires app, slightly expensive

Don Mueang Recommendation:

Best option: Grab or private transfer (both direct, skip Bangkok). If extreme budget: 2-part journey via Bangkok.

Airport 3: U-Tapao (UTP) — Pattaya's Local Airport

U-Tapao International Airport (UTP)

Distance to Pattaya: About 40 km / 30-45 minutes drive

What it is: Small international airport near Pattaya. Closest airport to Pattaya! Mostly domestic flights and Asian routes. Growing but limited international options.

Option 1: Airport Taxi (EASIEST)

Cost: 300-400 baht ($9-12 USD)

Time: 30-45 minutes

How: Exit airport, find taxi rank. Negotiate price (fixed rate is ~350 baht). Driver takes you directly to your hotel in Pattaya. Very short journey.

Pros: Super quick, cheap, direct, easy

Cons: Need to negotiate price (not metered)

Option 2: Grab (MODERN)

Cost: 250-350 baht ($8-10 USD)

Time: 30-45 minutes

How: Use Grab app. Airport to Pattaya destination. Direct, transparent price.

Pros: Cheapest modern option, fixed price, transparent

Cons: Requires Grab account

U-Tapao Recommendation:

Best option: Grab or regular taxi (both cheap and quick). U-Tapao is YOUR best choice if available — it's 30-40 minutes to Pattaya instead of 1.5-2 hours from Suvarnabhumi. Worth checking if flights to U-Tapao exist when booking.

Which Airport Should You Fly Into?

Airport Distance to Pattaya Flight Options Transfer Cost (Budget) Transfer Time Best For
Suvarnabhumi (BKK) 160 km Most flights 250 baht 1.5-2 hours International travelers
Don Mueang (DMK) 170 km Budget airlines 270 baht (via Bangkok) 3 hours (2-part) Budget airline users
U-Tapao (UTP) 40 km Limited routes 250-350 baht 30-45 min Pattaya-focused travelers

Pre-Booking vs Buying On Arrival

Pre-book if: Late night arrival (after 10 PM) or traveling with family/luggage. Peace of mind worth the extra cost.

Buy on arrival if: Daytime landing, solo traveler with minimal luggage, you're comfortable with spontaneous decisions.
